Shawnee Miller

Chairman of the year award

Dora was a gifted athlete in many sports. She held national records in high school in high jump and 50-yard dash. She competed internationally in track and field events and was on the original Texas Track Club. She won first in three events in the United States Track and Field finals in 1964. She was an all-district first-team selection in girls basketball at Gatesville every season from 1959 to 1961. She competed in U. S. Olympic trials in 1960 and tied in a 50-yard race with Wilma Rudolph. At the Olympic trials in 1964, she tied for 4th in high jump in the Olympic trials. Dyson has graced the pages of magazines, such as Texas Parade and Sports Illustrated, along with being featured in national newspapers. 

She was honored to receive the Texas Society Chairman of the Year award in 2016.
